Can Alcohol Stop Duromine From Working?

Is it very unhealthy to take Duromine with alcohol? I just love my glass of red wine at the end of a day! I have been using Duromine for 3 weeks now, and still having my wine, but want to make sure it will not cause any damage with the pillso_O.

"DO NOT drink alcohol whilst taking Duromine."

Your dr should have given you that leaflet, and you should have researched it before starting. Daily alcohol consumption on its own does its own damage (thats a fact im afraid) but to have it while taking duromine is even more dangerous.

Pick your poison..

I always say that you should better avoid drinking alcohol while on Duromine. But nobody takes it seriously here.o_O

However, if it's just "a glass of red wine", I don't think it will damage your health too much. There's another risk. You see, when you drink alcohol, it relaxes you and so your will power and all reactions are sleeping))) Thus you can eat more than usual, so your diet might be ruined since your appetite increases. Basically, alcohol neutralizes the effect of Duroine.

I have been behaving the same as lovecat,I find even after a glass of wine,I have cravings Or hungrry.I am doing my best to stay off it.End of week 2 lost 4.3kg so far,how much have u lost lovecat?

I wish I had your guy's determination. I do still have my drink every day, and know you are not supposed to while on D, but I've had no bad reactions, it just keeps my nerves down and does not increase my appetite at all, quite the opposite.

It is probably different for everybody, but I prefer a glass o wine rather than taking drugs like valium and anti depressants - at least it is natural?:p:laughing::eek::oops:

I have the odd glass no problem, I was so freaked that I would die or something so didn't for ages now I do :)

Hi @ sunnyday. Not sure what u mean about behaving like me; i dont drink alcohol. And i dont get cravings, or have a food problem. My diet and exercise was fine before duromine and has stayed the same since; im unable to shift weight for medical reasons. Lost 1kg after my first month taking 15mg, and 0.8kg on my second month taking 30mg. Im now on my third month of duromine, still taking 30mg. I only had about 10kg to lose so it doesnt work the way it does with people who have more to lose.
Duromine isnt the only drug u shouldnt drink alcohol with while taking. Just stating facts and answering the question.

HI Vee,

Glad to hear I am not the only one, haha:laughing:

Hi everyone,

I'm after some advice and help. I started Duromine 1 month ago and have lost 5.5kgs in that time. I had already lost about 18kgs, and hit a wall, so this has been great to help me shift the last bit. I have 3.5kgs to go to reach my goal.

I have 2 questions I'm hoping to get some feedback on;

1) The vision in my right eye has been blurry in the past few days. Its like I have sleep in my eye, but there is nothing there. I have read that some people get blurry vision on Duromine. Has anyone had this problem and does anyone know if it is permanent or not? I do not want to risk my eyesight.

2) The second question is about alcohol. My husbands 40th is coming up and we have a weekend away booked and a lovely restaurant to go to. This is going to involve alcohol, and I was wanting to know how long before drinking should you stop taking Duromine?

Thank you!

Hi, SJD
About blurry vision, I've heard that some people had suffered from that when on Duromine, but personally have never had this issue. So, it is best to visit a doctor and check your eyes (both) maybe you're having some other issue not related to Duromine. And it is best to detect asap.

Secondly, about alcohol. I've been asked here on the forum by many users about alcohol and Duromine together and my answer is - NO, do not mix these things. Although you may find different opinions, and some users may say that they were using Duromine and had some glasses of wine, etc. and nothing bad happened - my answer is still no - do not risk. I'll explain. Everybody is different and what's been good for one persone, does not mean good for another. Duromine is a stimulant, it acts in the brain, so imagine what reaction may occur with alcohol? Alcohol relaxes you, yet stimulates your brain and your hunger. So you start eating more than usually. And you don't want that))

And last but not least - Duromine is a medication, meaning your liver has to deal with it like with every other medication you are taking, because it is a foreign agent for your body. The same with alcohol. Our liver has to process it. So, when you on Duromine and drink alcohol, you are loading your liver twice more. I know for some people it is unimaginable to spend a b-day party or any other without alcohol. But personally, I do not understand that. If I am sick and I have to take antibiotics - everyone knows no alcohol is allowed. The same with Duromine. You may stop taking the pills at least a couple of days before going to restaurant, if you want. So make sure your body is cleaned of Duromine. OR you may drink something else that evening and still have a good time with your hubby. Why not? Anyways, I wish you to spend a great time and congrats to you both!!

I have no other side effects from duromine other than the suppressed appetite. I'm quite open about why I think i don't have any side effects taking it this time round to a couple of years back where I like most people couldn't sleep and got irritable and stopped taking it. I have put my body through the ringer with other substances that make you happy, high, alert and awake for hours on end. As I think my body is a little used to it now although that can't be a good thing.

I am one of those people who have drunk alcohol whilst taking duromine with no issue. Do I advise it though? No

Why? You don't know how you will react and what affect it will have on you.

Also as kate mentioned the eating. When I have something to drink, not to the state of tipsy or drunk, I still want to eat more especially salty chips let alone all the useless calories in actual alcohol and anything you mix it with. And after that day/night I'm left with having to spend the next week re losing some of the weight I've already lost. So far not massive amounts, thank god, but it does mean I taken one step forward and 2 steps back as I have work of the weight I've gain just to get to the initial weight and additional to say I've kept losing.

Honestly the decision is up to you but think it through. Duromine aside, Can you restrain yourself from not going overboard with the salty/greasy food you're going to want that night and possibly the next morning? Will you be able to say no to the foods you'll crave for a couple days after due to the higher intake of salt, sugar etc you've consumed that night? Are you going to be okay when the scales shows higher then before? How will it effect you emotionally after all losing weight is an emotional journey? Arr you going to be able to get back on the Wagon the next day?

If after all your thinking, you don't want to miss out on the drinking and everything that goes with it I would advise to stop taking the tablet a couple days before the event. But also keep mind that you may start to feel the effects were off straight away so have to be super controlled for those days off it so you don't fall back into old habits or over indulge before your night of indulging.

Either way, all the best and I hope you, your husband and friends have a wonderful night :)

Hi SJD, I had a situation recently where I had a couple of drinks, literally two nips, as alcohol is extremely high in kJs. I had missed my morning tablet, but had had the day befores one, even though, I did some research on controlled release drugs before waiting the entire 48 hour period ( as what I discovered was controlled release drugs can be still active between 7 and 48 hours)
That said I had no side effects, and did not take the tablet the following day either to ensure I didn't have a reaction. What I did have though, was an upset to my weight loss. This was my least loss since beginning with duromine, and honestly, it wasn't remotely worth the two nips of scotch I had. So I guess I would say, don't take then tablets for at least two days before and one after to avoid interaction. Secondly, be aware you are having empty kJs in alcohol, will have an increase in appetite and may not lose as much or at all in that period. In any case good luck, and enjoy your special dinner :) x

Thank you for everyone who responded. I do very much appreciate it.
Drinking alcohol whilst on Duromine was never an option for me, I was just wondering how long I have to not take it before drinking, so thank you... i'll skip it for 2 days prior.
I am definitely aware of the impact on my weight loss this will have, the alcohol and the food... however, I love a wine, and not having a drink is just not going to happen. I definitely can have a good time not drinking, but i really do enjoy a wine, and I want to celebrate with my husband. He only turns 40 once. Not just any old wine mind you, its a few hundred dollar bottle we bought in Italy when we went over just after the birth of our first child over 5 years ago. I work in a winery and he is a winemaker... so this dinner out is not complete without a good wine. I realise not everyone will understand though.
Thanks again for the advice about timing and making sure its out of system.

Oh, well then I understand why it is so important for you! And I love a good wine too, so have a great time!

hi everyone! i am new to this forum and i have a few questions i wuold like to ask.I am 30 yrs old, weigh 105.09 kg,1.70 m tall.I started using Duromine yesterday after being advised by a close friend. How often shoud i excersise?will my body not be flabby after all the weighloss?what do you advise me to eat or drink? i must mention that i am a beer lover which after all i believe is the cause of my weight gain..shud i drink lots of water?what do i eat or drink when feeling drowsy.Last night i slept early for the first time.how soon can i expect the resuts/
i will really appreciate your responses..
thank you

Hi
First of - 30yr, 105kg and 170cm - depending on how much you want to lose, yes the skin will not go anywhere unfortunately(( No miracles.
Secondly. Exercises. Better to be on daily basis. Like any physical activity, not necessarily gym. You need to waste calories.
Thirdly. Forget about beer for good if you really want to lose weight and keep it stable for years.
Eat: fat-free meat (chicken, turkey, lamb, beef, no pork); greens and other veggies, fruit, beans, nuts, dairy products (sour), no white bread and ketchup & things like that, just bran bread. Lots of water or green tea, lemonade (no soda, any kind of it). Strict, isn't it? :p
If you feel drowsy you need to eat some proteins or carbs (depending on the time of day), or you may drink a home-made lemonade with ginger.

I hope it helps ;)

p.s. I'm sorry, but I don't understand those people, who ask questions like: "how soon do I have results?", or "how much will I lose per day/month, etc". Are we in a grocery store and you ask a seller the price? Ridiculous. Nobody can tell you the precise numbers. This is your body and basically it reacts the way it wants, without asking for instructions and your preferences. Please find some time for yourself and a little more to read stories on the forum (there's a lot that can give you the answers and that actually help to compare your situation with someone else's experience) because no one can do it better than you.

Best wishes, Kate

I don't take Duromine over weekends cause I drink on weekends.... so by skipping the weekends could that slower the process of losing weight fast???

Of course. Not to mention you make your body go crazy since it has to get used to the active substance for a while and then you stop taking it, and then taking it again...
Well, lots of users will tell you they take it every other day, but my opinion is - take it daily.

As Kate said it would yes.
Another thing is that alcohol and weight loss don't go together at all especially if you are on D.
I know its hard to change habits hen others around you do it but maybe just give it a miss for a while.

Hi all

I just need some advise I am on day 3 of Duromine (80kg - 155cm - 43 years) and I have a friend's birthday in Saturday night. I plan to have a couple of drinks (I know I shouldn't). My question is should I keep taking the tablet that day (6am) or should I skip it on this day.

Also how long does it take for the tablets to start taking affect? I see some people say they have no appetite at all but I am on day 3 nd feel hungry throughout the day. Today I have had 1 piece of grain toast with thin spread of avocado and 1 boiled egg, morning two was 1 boiled egg, lunch was 100g grilled chicken with cos lettuce, cherry tomato and some avo and dinner was 80g steak, asparagus & brocollini. I Am drinking over 2-3 ltrs water too.

Thanks for your advise.
